Thomas FitzGeralds’ work explores the deadfall of history and personal identity in modern times. The recurrent imagery of community and partnership and solitude purposefully expresses the divide between an individual's intentions and the demands of the world around them and the needs of those closest to them. The work, in the tradition of folk art, corresponds more with societal narrative, religion, and racial identity than the fine art cannon. Fear, anger and guilt can be uncovered through the work, but always alongside the search for a deeper understanding.
